Nicoletta Ceccoli

Nicoletta Ceccoli is a Sammarinese illustrator well-known for her dreamlike, surreal, and beautiful artworks. She was born and resides in the Republic of San Marino. She studied animation at the Institute of Art in Urbino, Italy, and began her illustration career in 1995. Since then, she has illustrated numerous children's books, including The Girl in the Castle by Kate Bernheimer, Little Red Riding Hood, and Pinocchio. She has also created work for magazines, book covers, CDs, posters, and various commercial projects. Her artwork has been exhibited and collected internationally, attracting prestigious clients such as Vogue, United Airlines, and Random House.

In 2001, Ceccoli received the Andersen Prize “Baia della favole”, recognizing her as the best illustrator of the year in Italy. She has also been honored with Silver medal by the Society of Illustrators, New York in 2006. Her remarkable achievement in children's books has won recognition from Bologna’s Children’s book Fair, and her artworks were selected for inclusion in seven of its annual shows between 1995 and 2007. In addition, she received the Award of Excellence from Communication Art (CA) 5 times between 2004 and 2011.

Building on the success and recognition of her work in children's literature, she expanded her artistic vision into the world of animation. Her distinctive style and talent for character design led to collaborations in film and television. In 2008, she worked as a character designer for the French 3D animated film La mécanique du cœur, directed by Mathias Melzieau. In 2021, she participated in the production of the animation of ‘Phoenix Rising’, a documentary produced by HBO and directed by Amy Berg.
