Art Basel Hong Kong 2025
Unveiling a Dynamic Global Art Showcase
Art Basel is delighted to announce further highlights in Hong Kong, scheduled from March 28 to 30 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). This year's fair will feature 240 leading galleries from 42 countries and territories, including 23 first-time participants, underscoring Art Basel's commitment to global diversity and regional representation.
Encounters Sector: 'As the World Turns'
The 'Encounters' sector, dedicated to large-scale installations, will present 18 monumental projects curated by Alexie Glass-Kantor under the theme 'As the World Turns.' The installations will explore themes such as cultural resonance, materiality, digital intersections, and mythology. Notable works include three monumental paintings by the late Filipino-American artist Pacita Abad, presented by Silverlens and Tina Kim Gallery, and a suite of 30 brass sculptures by Hong Kong-born artist Christopher K. Ho, presented by Property Holdings Development Group. Additionally, an offsite installation, 'Lanternfly Ballet' by Monster Chetwynd, will be showcased at Pacific Place, supported by Swire Properties.
Kabinett Sector: Record Participation
The 'Kabinett' sector will feature 36 thematic presentations within galleries' booths—the highest number in the fair's history. With a strong focus on solo projects from the Asia-Pacific region, highlights include a series of gestural ceramics and paintings by the late American artist Martin Wong, presented by P.P.O.W., and a group presentation of ink paintings by post-Mao period artists such as Liu Dan and Li Jin, presented by Ink Studio.
MGM Discoveries Art Prize: Supporting Emerging Artists
The MGM Discoveries Art Prize, a newly established award for the 2025 edition of Art Basel Hong Kong, aims to support emerging artists and foster new talent. The shortlisted artists are Shin Min (P21), Kayode Ojo (Sweetwater), and Saju Kunhan (Tarq). The winner, to be announced during the show, will receive a cash prize of USD 50,000, shared between the artist and their gallery, along with the opportunity to exhibit in Macau.
Public Programs: Film and Conversations
Art Basel Hong Kong 2025 will offer an extensive public program, including Film and Conversations. For the first time, the Film program is curated by Hong Kong's independent art institution Para Site, featuring seven screenings and works by 30 artists. The Conversations program cover topics ranging from the evolution of Southeast Asian patronage and artists' engagement with AI, to the artistic dimensions of rave culture and the links between art, design, and architecture.
Art Basel Hong Kong 2025, with UBS as its Global Lead Partner, promises a vibrant platform for artistic exchange and cultural discovery, reinforcing Hong Kong's status as a major cultural hub.
