Sharon Lin
A Cookbook for Sad People
This project explores how cooking can benefit one’s mental health, is it the process, the food, or both?
This book consists of 6 recipes from people and their reflections on cooking, along with comics and other special features.
‘Food makes friends’, and I hope this book can feel like you’re talking to a friend, or even be the start of an actual conversation with your friends.

About the illustrator
Sharon is a Taiwan-born, London-based creative bean specialising in illustration, books, comics, and animations, but most of all, anything about food, people, and mental health.
Some of her recent books are 'Can't Adult Today', a short comic book about adulting struggles, and 'A Cookbook for Sad People', an illustrated cookbook emphasising how food can forge friendships. Both were derived from community-based research, which basically means yapping a lot with other people.
She experiments with vibrant colours, textures, and humour to create a childlike narrative in her work, and she occasionally facilitates cooking classes to bring communities together.
She loves dogs, by the way.
